Pilates with Thuy Tran

Pilates is just one hour of your day. What really matters is how you move and feel during the other twenty-three.

My work is centered on helping clients build strength, mobility, and mind-body awareness that carries into daily life, whether that’s work, sport, recovery, or simply moving through the world with more ease and less pain.

Based in Del Mar & serving the San Diego community

Your training matters.

Your training matters. ✳︎

Your training matters (and your instructor’s does too!)

I work alongside licensed physical therapists with specializations in orthopedics, pelvic floor dysfunction and pain management, and prenatal and postpartum support.

This partnership, combined with my comprehensive pilates certification and ballet background, has shaped the way I teach: anatomy-led and technique-focused, yet highly adaptive and creative.

1-on-1 sessions with me are ideal for those who prioritize informed and mindful movement.

What I offer

  • 1:1 sessions are great for those who want individualized attention and a program tailored to their body and goals. We’ll work together to define clear fitness/health goals and track your results over time.

  • These sessions are great for those who prefer to train with small cohort of similarly-leveled individuals. Classes are generally between 2-6 people for a tailored experience. Semi-privates are also great for intimate events like birthdays, bachelor/bachelorette parties, etc.

  • Find me at these local studios teaching group mat and reformer classes:

    • Wednesdays 5pm, 6pm at Vida Pilates in University City

    • Saturdays 7:30am, 8:30am, 9:30am at Vida Pilates in University City

I also teach a mat and reformer pilates class at the University of San Diego (USD), which is open to students, faculty, and university employees.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Navigating injuries or chronic pain? Trying to get back on your feet postpartum? Plateauing in group fitness classes and want to level up? This work is for you.

I also work with athletes and performers to support their cross-training programs.

  • Not at all! Private sessions are always tailored to your experience level and goals.

  • Most clients see the greatest benefits from consistent, weekly sessions.

  • In-studio sessions are held at Restorative Physical Therapy & Pelvic Health, a boutique physical therapy clinic and private pilates studio in Del Mar. The studio is fully equipped with Balanced Body pilates apparatus.

Virtual sessions can be done in the comfort of your own home or home gym via video conferencing software.

  • Most new clients start with a 3-session intro package.

The first session is an "assessment," focused on observing how your body moves, what it needs, and what it responds well to. The second and third sessions are follow-ups, designed to evaluate your learning style and determine appropriate long-term programming.

After these sessions, clients purchase single sessions or 5 or 10 session packages.

  • “Living with increasingly painful osteoarthritis, I’m very mindful of how I exercise. Thuy has been a gift. She is incredibly attentive and has a wonderful way of explaining complex concepts. Her cueing is the best. It’s clear, well-timed, and she’s very creative! I always feel safe during our sessions and she knows when I’m ready to take on more. I leave every session feeling stronger and walking taller!”

  • "Thuy focuses heavily on the fundamentals of form. As a beginner, I'd been doing pilates casually for a year or two prior. Her direct feedback has really improved my understanding of the exercises. My exercises are a LOT more effective now. If you're considering pilates or starting a New Year's Resolution, I'd recommend taking at least 5 courses with Thuy to baseline your form. It'll help any exercising you do thereafter."

  • "I've taken several privates with Thuy and wow. She is an excellent instructor! I tried pilates for the first time to address pain and stiffness in my back, which I developed from years of boxing and playing golf. Thuy was great at identifying my body's strengths and weaknesses and tailoring sessions to my unique needs. Since working with Thuy, I've noticed real improvements in my posture, balance, core strength, and coordination. On top of being a great instructor, Thuy's funny, a pleasure to work with, and very supportive."

  • "Thuy was an amazing instructor from beginning to end. I really appreciated how she took her time with everyone in the class, making sure each person understood proper posture and form. She was incredibly attentive and encouraging, offering personalized corrections that truly helped me improve. What stood out to me most was how inclusive and thoughtful she was – especially when it came to modifications. Since I'm unable to do a full plank, she showed me alternative options and shared helpful tips and tricks so I could still keep up with the class without feeling discouraged or left behind. I absolutely loved her teaching style, her hands-on guidance, and the positive energy she brought to the studio. I left feeling supported, confident, and motivated and definitely plan on coming back for her classes!"
